Process

The following pages are the four main steps to creating works of art in the ceramic studio.

Building

Building is the process of taking the clay and shaping it into what ever you would like to make. I like to use photos and images of what I might make next. Sometimes its animals, and other times I make functional ware. It could be vases or dishes: cups, plates, bowls, or tea pots.

Bisque

Bisquing happens after you finish making a piece of art. When the clay is completely dry it will be put into the kiln to be fired once called the first firing.

Glazing

Next, what happens is you get to paint or glaze your art piece with either high or low fire glazes.

Firing

Firing is the last step to creating your work of art. Once glazed, your piece will be dipped in clear glaze and then fired a second time in the kiln before being completed.
